F. Christian Thompson

F. Christian Thompson of Kingstowne, Virginia, is a research entomologist for the United States Department of Agriculture.  Dr. Thompson received both his Bachelor of Science degree and his Ph.D. from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst.  Dr. Thompson has authored over 130 scientific publications and is one of 25 specialists from throughout the world elected to advise on the International code of Zoological Nomenclature.  He is a dedicated and vocal philanthropist who believes in giving back to those organizations that have affected his life and work.  He has established dedicated endowments for both the Smithsonian Institution and the Smithsonian Libraries.  He has also served as president, president-elect, and treasurer of the Entomological Society of Washington, D.C., and has received special recognition for his “outstanding leadership and dedicated service” by the Eastern branch of the Entomological Society of America.
