The impoverished students' book of cookery, drinkery, & housekeepery , 4th edition

By Jay F. Rosenberg . Portland, OR: Reed College Alumni Association, ©1965 [i.e. 1967].

Jay Rosenberg's The impoverished students' book of cookery, drinkery, & housekeepery is the epitome of survival guides for college students.  Rosenberg, a Reed College alumnus and Doctor of Philosophy, divulges among other things, sage advice in his "What-the-hell-do-you-do-with" Liver recipe, shares his family's recipe for Hungarian Chicken Paprikash where it is reckoned it goes "back to Adam and Eve who got it from the Angel with the Flaming Sword," and includes advice on home-brewing, budgets, and attractive wall-groupings.  Published first as a mimeographed cook-pamphlet in 1963, and then later as a cookbooklet by the Reed College Alumni Association in 1965, the book was a huge, hysterical success.  Reprinted several times until 1971, the book ultimately funded the Jay Rosenberg Cookbook Scholarship at Reed College and landed Rosenberg an appearance on the game show To Tell the Truth.  Be sure to check out the nerdy flow-chartcum Analytical Index.  Our copy is a fourth impression of the original 1965 edition, printed in February 1967.
