Inside of Indo-Tibetan Bronzes

Indo-Tibetan bronzes, 1st edition

By Ulrich von Schroeder. Hong Kong: Visual Dharma Publications, 1981.

This book is an invaluable tool for art historians, scholars, dealers, and collectors interested in metal sculptures of Northern India, the Himalayas, and Tibet. It is also an important work for scholars studying Chinese bronzes of the Ming and Qing Dynasties. Published in 1981, it remains the only publication providing a timeline of the evolution of the art of these types of metal sculptures. The author, Ulrich von Schroeder, has been studying Buddhist art and culture as an independent scholar since the early 1960s. He started as a collector, became a dealer, and then finally a scholar of Indo-Tibetan bronzes. Von Schroeder spent many years recording every bronze sculpture he could find in order to develop the regional and chronological classification that is this book. The book is no longer in print. Copies are difficult to find and extremely expensive when available, making this library copy a very important scholarly resource.
