BUILD-A-BOOK Teacher Development Workshop

Enrich your teaching by fostering an awareness of the extraordinary contributions of Africans to our world heritage.  Bring the richness and diversity of the arts into your classrooms.  

On Saturday, March 5th,  teachers engaged in this workshop will have the opportunity to tour and engage with Artists’ Books and Africa on view at the National Museum of African Art. Teachers will tour the gallery exhibition and experience amazing, original, and one-of-a-kind art works by African contemporary artists. They will also learn about Book Art FUNdamentals  with Teaching Artist  Jeanne Drewes from the Library of Congress and be introduced to the wide range of  materials, structures, and methods of book art.   Teachers will also have the opportunity to meet  Janet Stanley, Librarian, the Warren M. Robbins Library at the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African Art and Curator of Artists’ Books and Africa and enjoy hands-on interaction with  artists’ books not on exhibition.
