Smithsonian Libraries Receives $1.5 Million from Seidell Fund

The Smithsonian Institution Libraries has received $1.5 million from the Smithsonian’s Atherton Seidell Endowment Fund. This award will support the Libraries’ participation in the Biodiversity Heritage Library Project for the next five years.

Margaret Henry Dabney Penick Resident Scholar Program

The Smithsonian Institution Libraries announces the new Margaret Henry Dabney Penick Resident Scholar Program. Founded by a bequest of Margaret P. Nuttle, this program includes fellowship that supports scholarly research into the legacy of Patrick Henry and his political circle, the early political history of Virginia, the history of the American Revolution, founding era ideas and policy making, as well as science, technology and culture in Colonial America and the Early National Period. The stipend for this fellowship is $5,000 a month for up to nine consecutive months.

Smithsonian Libraries Hosts Symposium on the History of Science

The Smithsonian Institution Libraries hosted a two-day symposium titled “The Era of Experiments and the Age of Wonder: Scientific Expansion in the 17th-19th Centuries” March 4 and 5 in the National Museum of American History. This celebration marked the reopening of the Dibner Library of the History of Science and Technology, one of the Libraries’ two facilities for rare books and manuscripts, the Dibner Library lectures and the Resident Scholar program.
