Remote Access to Research Tools for Smithsonian Staff

Based on feedback from library users, the Smithsonian Libraries has implemented a new system called EZproxy that allows you to access almost all of the library subscription-based e-resources using your SI network credentials. Here’s how it works in 3 easy steps:

  1. To use EZproxy while at home or in the field, head first to the Libraries’ Research Tools page:  library.si.edu/research
  2. When you click on items found via the OneSearch box or links on the A-Z List of e-Journals & Databases (under Find), you will be prompted to enter your SI email address and password. Here’s what the prompt will look like:

  3. For each browser session, you only need to sign in once. All of your research from that point forward will be seamless and just like your experience when you are working on-site.

The most important thing to remember – You must start at the Research Tools page to use EZproxy. Going directly to an e-journal or database, or using browser bookmarks, won’t prompt the EZproxy sign-in.

The short video below gives a quick overview of how EZproxy works.
