Décoration moderne dans l'intérieur

By Henry Delacroix. Paris: S. de Bonadona, 1935?.

This is a rare 1935 portfolio of Art Deco style pochoir printed full-color plates of designs for modern interiors. Among the designers whose work is represented in this portfolio are Francis Jourdain, Pierre Chareau, Georges Djo-Bourgeois, and the author, Henry Delacroix himself. Living rooms, children’s rooms, bedrooms, offices, dining rooms, and libraries are included, along with the room’s furnishings, such as furniture, lighting, and decorative accessories. The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Library copy of this book was given to the collection from the library of Donald Deskey, a very important American industrial designer, whose own designs for interiors may very well have been inspired by the works in this book. The Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum holds the Donald Deskey Archive Collection, along with other books, drawings, and objects.

Condition and Treatment:

This is an early 20th century portfolio with 48 color plates. The portfolio is in poor condition with the spine missing and one tie damaged. The plates are black around the edges. Some of the plates have areas of loss on the edges. Conservators will dry clean the plates and place them in Mylar L-sleeves. Repairs will be made to the areas of loss along the edges. A custom enclosure will then be made to house the original portfolio covers and the plates in L-sleeves.
