By Fusée Aublet. Londres ; & se trouve a Paris: Chez Pierre-François Didot jeune ..., 1775.

Serving as Apothecary Botanist in the colony of French Guiana on the northern coast of South America, Aublet established a major herbarium of the flora of the region which formed the basis for this seminal work on Neotropical botany. In its four volumes he covers 576 genera of plants, of which over 200 were new to Western science, and includes almost 400 copperplate engravings.

Condition and Treatment:

The volumes are cased in modern library-buckram. The boards are detached in three of the four volumes. The text-blocks and plates are occasionally discolored, showing evidence of mold.  Conservators will remove potential airborne surface mold with a HEPA-filter vacuum and re-attach the boards. Conditions in the environmentally controlled vault will prevent future mold outbreaks.
