Damage to New Furniture from the Work Shop of Gustave Stickley

New fvrnitvre from the work shop of Gvstave Stickley, cabinet maker, Syracvse, NY VSA.

By Gustav Stickley. New York : Gustav Stickley, between 1901 and 1916?.

This small format catalog is one of only 2 in existence; it was created by adhering, or “tipping in,”  previously printed photos of various types of furniture from celebrated cabinet maker Gustave Stickley’s workshop in Syracuse, NY. The front cover has "No. 1" noted inside the floral decorative design. It’s dated from between 1901 and 1913 and represents both the Mission and Arts and Crafts style of the period. Advertisements for Stickley furniture in trade publications confirm the early dating of many of these pieces. Catalog numbers and dimensions of each piece are printed onto the pages next to the tipped in plates. Stools, tea tables, plant stands, tabourettes, bench seating, chairs, and desks are all featured in this very early trade catalogue.

Condition and Treatment:

This is a trade catalog with the original printed and illustrated green stiff-paper cover. There is a green cord tie at the spine. The pages of the text contain printed descriptions and pasted in pictures. Conservators will untie the sewing cord and repair the cover. The pages will be guarded and resewn. A custom enclosure will be created to house this fragile item.
