Opticks

Opticks: or, A treatise of the reflections, refractions, inflexions and colours of light : also two treatises of the species and magnitude of curvilinear figures

By Isaac Newton. London: Printed for Sam. Smith, and Benj. Walford ..., 1704.

This important work in the history of science is the classical formulation and first full presentation of Newton's corpuscular, or emission theory of light. Newton delayed the publication of the book for several years to avoid possible unpleasant debates over priority with contemporary scientist and frequent adversary, Robert Hooke.

Condition and Treatment:

This volume has a full leather binding with blind tooled decoration. The sewing is broken in several places and has separated from boards (the book covers). Some sections of text are loose and detached increasing chances for further damage. The book needs to be disbound, pages cleaned and resewn, and reattached to the boards.
