Covarrubias (1904-1957) was a Mexican American who established himself as a caricaturist of celebrities of the stage and screen and drew for many top magazines, especially Vanity Fair. This is his first book which was immensely popular and featured many celebrities and notables of the day, including Charlie Chaplin, Willa Cather, John Barrymore, Will Rogers, Eugene O'Neill, Lillian Gish, Douglas Fairbanks, and Pablo Picasso. The introduction is written by Carl van Vechten a writer and photographer who was a major patron of the Harlem Renaissance.
