Unseen Ansel Adams : photographs from the Fiat Lux Collection

By Ansel Adams (1902-1984). San Diego, CA: Thunder Bay Press, c2010.

In 1963, the University of California system was undertaking a celebration of their upcoming centennial, and commissioned Ansel Adams, the leading light in American Landscape photography, to create a photographic book for the occasion. Adams, most famous for his photographs of Yosemite National Park, used the opportunity to turn his camera on the beauty of the whole state: from the beaches, to the farms, to UC campuses. The result is Fiat Lux, the motto of the University of California system and the title of the book. Unseen presents the works from this project in an impressive large format volume with an introduction from professor, Jason Weems.
