The Cooper-Hewitt has a large collection of 19th-century illustrated children's books in many languages. This is an illustrated book of German children's nursery rhymes.
Condition and Treatment:
An example of German stapled binding. The staples are rusting. The decorative endpapers are detached and torn. The pages towards the back of the book are soiled. Conservators will disbind the book and remove the staples. Clean the soiled pages with eraser crumbs. Repair the endpapers and resew the textblock. Recase into original binding, if possible.
