The baby's opera : a book of old rhymes with new dresses

By Walter Crane. London & New York: George Routledge and Sons, 1877.

Walter Crane (1845-1915) was an English artist and book illustrator. He is considered to be the most prolific and influential children's book creator of his generation. His work featured some of the more colorful and child-in-the-garden motifs that would characterize nursery rhymes and children's stories for many years. He illustrated a series of sixpenny toy books of nursery rhymes. The Baby's Opera was a book of English nursery songs and part of a course of instruction in the arts for the nursery.
