Chesapeake prehistory : old traditions, new directions

By Richard J. Dent. New York: Plenum Press, c1995.

Illustrated with black-and-white photos, maps, and explanatory charts, Chesapeake Prehistory intersperses scholarship with the author’s lively commentary and personal observations. The book includes recent archeological advances, discoveries, and interpretations into the existing lore of the Chesapeake Bay. The known data on the prehistory of the Chesapeake region is vast, and this book attempts to incorporate it all, while emphasizing the importance of continued research and analysis.  Some of that “continued research and analysis” is being conducted at the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center by volunteer Archeologist, Dr. Jim Gibb. Dr. Gibb studies human interactions with their environments with a focus on the Rhode River Estuary on the Chesapeake Bay.
