Christo in Jeanne-Claude

Admirers of the artists Christo and Jeanne-Claude would not be surprised by the unique way in which the couple have packaged this publication – a catalogue from an exhibition staged at Kozjanski Park in Podsreda, Slovenia. The catalogue, from an edition of 500, is covered in a bright orange rubber material produced by Sava Kranj, now Sava Tires, a Slovenian tire and rubber product manufacturer. The bright color and tactile nature of the cover invites viewers in, involving them with the work. The cover is folded in at the corners, much like a wrapped gift, with a bow in the center tempting the readers to find out what lies below. The Smithsonian Libraries’ copy is the only US holding recorded in Worldcat, a worldwide union catalog of library holdings. Christo’s work is in the collection of the Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden and was featured in the 2013 exhibition Out of the Ordinary.
