Siebe & Gorman, a British company founded in 1820 by German-born Augustus Siebe, is noted for its diving and underwater breathing equipment. In 1837 Siebe devised innovative improvements to existing diving dress and thus created the first effective, commercially successful closed diving helmet and suit, the prototype of those still in use today. This catalogue, dating from about 1870, contains glowing testimonials and several illustrations of the product's use including underwater engineering and salvaging of shipwrecks.
