Italian scenery from drawings made in 1817

By Elizabeth Frances Batty. London: Rodwell & Martin ..., 1820.

Elizabeth Frances Batty (active from ca. 1809) was the sister of army officer and artist Robert Batty (1788-1848). Though, like her sibling, she was a member of the Royal Academy, little is known of her biographically. The volume is one of the finest steel-engraved illustrated books of the 19th century.  Elizabeth Frances Batty (1791-1875).

Condition and Treatment:

Half of this book's leather binding has a marbled paper covering. Covers and upper endsheet are detached and almost missing the lower portion of spine covering.  Covers must be reattached with toned linen, and the losses on spine should be filled with the same. Inner joints also need to be reinforced.
