The Lonely Land
The lonely land
One of the most pristine and wild areas of North America is the Canadian Northwest. It is over 400,000 square miles with less than 50,000 inhabitants, and due to its northerly location and weather, has been largely untouched by man. Author and environmentalist Sigurd F. Olson had long been fascinated by this area and the Europeans who explored it centuries ago – so much so that he decided to emulate their 500-mile canoe journey. This book documents that breath-taking, often dangerous attempt and is written in a style reminiscent of Jack London with lovely, sparse illustrations on each chapter heading.
