The Cooper-Hewitt Library owns many travel guides, collected by the museum founders, the Hewitt Sisters. This is from The Library of Sarah Cooper Hewitt, presented in memory of her father Abram S. Hewitt and her sister Eleanor Garnier Hewitt. Multi-volume set, Vols. 1 & 2 are bound together. Contains 24 plates of black & white engravings. Plates illustrated by Ant. Berselli and engraved by Kirchmayr.

Condition and Treatment: 

Half brown goatskin with blue marbled paper sides. Edges red sprinkled. Lithographic illustrations. This original binding is damaged with detached boards, the spine is missing, and the binding is soiled. The textblock is soiled and has loose and detached pages.  Conservators will re-back spine, refurbish binding, dryclean textblock pages, and re-attach loose pages.
