Ursula Marvin's Journal—Antarctica, 1981–1982
Ursula Bailey Marvin (1921–2018) was a planetary geologist at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory (SAO). Before joining the Smithsonian, Marvin taught mineralogy at Tufts University for two years and conducted meteorite research at Harvard University. In 1961, she became part of the permanent research staff at the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory. Marvin retired in 1998, but continued to research and publish well into her nineties. This journal documents her trip to Antarctica from 1981–1982.
