Daughters of America
Author Phebe Hanaford was inspired by her famous cousin, women's rights activist Lucretia Mott, to become a suffragist herself. The inscription of this book reads: "To the women of future centuries of the United States of America, this record of many women of the first and second centuries whose lives were full of usefulness, and therefore worthy of renown and imitation."
The Art Work of Louis C. Tiffany
Louis Comfort Tiffany (1848-1933) was one of the most celebrated designers at the turn of the 20th century, known for his metal and glass work. But Tiffany was also a notable artist, who created beautiful drawings and paintings as well as three-dimensional works. Picasso
Joseph H. Hirshhorn, founding donor of the Smithsonian Institution’s Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden, was an avid collector and supporter of Picasso. The two became friends after being introduced by photographer Edward Steichen. The original dark purple cloth publisher's binding of this monograph is embossed with a gold gilt facsimile of Picasso’s signature.
Juliet Low and the Girl Scouts
Published in 1928, the year after Juliette Low’s death, the book traces her life, including how she became involved with Girl Guiding and later founded the Girl Scouts of the USA. It begins with her own recollections of childhood and goes on to include stories by family and friends, many of which are from her Guiding and Scouting days.
