Journal of a Voyage to Greenland, in the Year 1821
Primarily an inventor credited with developing the breeches buoy for rescuing people from shipwrecks, Manby sailed to Greenland, via Spitzbergen and Iceland, to test an experimental whaling harpoon. The book he wrote about the voyage describes the flora and fauna of those Arctic regions, as well as the whaling industry in the early 19th century. Its 20 plates and map, printed by Hullmandel, are among the earliest examples of lithography in England.
