Descriptive Data

In collaboration with the DISC supervisors, the Descriptive Data Management Librarian (DDM) provides expertise regarding descriptive data policies and best practices in shaping the metadata strategies and plans in order to meet SI units' collections and resources needs. These activities include creation and management of name entities which serve as foundations in bibliographic, authority, and descriptive data. The DDM Librarian works with colleagues to ensure that the descriptive data quality produced and curated adhere to internal SI, US national, and international guidelines, and prepares training programs for the Libraries staff. In addition, the DDM Librarian raises awareness of the emerging linked data standards, practices, and technologies to expose SI resources onto the Internet meeting educational and research needs.
