Alice's adventures in Wonderland / / by Lewis Carroll ; illustrated by Arthur Rackham ; with a poem by Austin Dobson

By Lewis Carroll. London; New York: William Heinemann; Doubleday Page & Co., n.d..

In 1907, after more than forty years, Lewis Carroll’s much-loved Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland entered the public domain. That year at least eight new editions of Alice’s Adventures were published. Of those, Arthur Rackham’s illustrated version has persisted as one of the most visually iconic outside of the original Victorian era drawings by John Tenniel. Rackham was the preeminent Edwardian illustrator during Britain’s Golden Age of Illustration. Though his Alice interpretation received mixed reviews at the time of publication, the thirteen color plates, as well as the numerous black and white illustrations printed throughout, have become some of the most enduring. This undated reissue of his 1907 edition, most likely published before 1926, brought Rackham’s Alice an even wider North American audience.
