The Auklet, November 1924

By American Ornithologists' Union. 1924.

The Auklet was the humor magazine of the American Ornithologists' Union, first published in the early 1920s. Not to be confused with the AOU’s official quarterly magazine The Auk, its booklet-length Auklet cousin features short stories, poetry, phony meeting minutes, cartoons, fake advertisements, and even short, medieval-style dramas (The Auk was retitled to The Auk: Ornithological Advancements in 2014, before undergoing another name change to Ornithology in 2021). The AOU itself merged with the Cooper Ornithological Society in 2016 to form the American Ornithological Society. The Archives holds three of the earliest issues of the Auklet, from 1924, 1926, and 1931. The motto of its November 1924 issue reads: “If you see it in The Auklet it isn’t so.”
