With over 500 photographs dating from the turn of the 20th century to the present day, Black: A Celebration of a Culture exhibits the vivacious landscape of black culture not only in America, but also around the world. Taken from music, art, fashion, sports, family, worship, and play, the photos shown in this book were researched at the Smithsonian Institution, Library of Congress, and select photographers, and hand-picked by Deborah Willis, America's leading historian of African-American photography. Willis is also a member of the Scholarly Advisory Committee for the National Museum of African American History and Culture at the Smithsonian. The foreword was written by actress Anna Maria Horsford.
