De Bijenkorf (the beehive) was a department store designed by Pieter Kramer in The Hague and built between 1917 and 1928. It is considered an important example of Art Deco architecture in the Netherlands. It is also a useful source for the study of retailing and advertising. Hendrick Wijdeveld was a noted architectural critic who wrote for the magazine Wendingen.
