Heirlooms in Miniatures, by Anne Hollingsworth Wharton; with a chapter on miniature painting by Emily Drayton Taylor ...

By Anne Hollingsworth Wharton. Philadelphia, : J.B. Lippincott Company, 1898.

Published in 1898, "Heirlooms in Miniatures" features reproductions of illustrations of the “best examples of colonial, revolutionary, and modern miniature painters." Attempting to document the lives and work of the preeminent American artists of the time, it features notes from the author of incorrectly marked portraits and fun facts that add a taste of personality to the informative biographies of the artists and subjects. This edition‘s mustard-yellow cover is ornately decorated with gold borders and designs of palm trees, bows, and rose bouquets to surround and emphasize the centered book title. Anne Hollingsworth Wharton (1845-1928) published over a dozen works relating to history and movements in the Americas. In 1891, Wharton was made Historian of The National Society of the Colonial Dames of America.
