Kunstoffner

By Kunsthaus Zurich. Bern ; Zurich: Benteli, 2006.

Kunstöffner is a kit designed to encourage a young person’s appreciation of art through objects in the collection at the Kunsthaus Zürich, one of the most significant art collections in Switzerland. The cover image of Andy Warhol’s Big Torn Campbell’s Soup Can (Vegetable Beef) and the metal case likely creates a visual pun to the title, which roughly translates to "Art Opener" (as opposed to can opener). The kit includes a catalogue with collection highlights from the Middle Ages to contemporary art; a workbook which prompts the reader to think deeply about art, with space to record observations or drawings; a Kunsthaus Zürich pencil; and a set of 32 cards, which the reader can sort and arrange thematically, or use to curate personal exhibitions. In total, the kit is a beautiful object for art lovers of all ages.
