Smithsonian Institution Research Reports
Smithsonian Institution Research Reports, No. 67 Winter 1992–No. 70 Autumn 1992
Fifty years ago, the Office of Public Affairs published its first installment of the Smithsonian Institution Research Reports. The newsletter-style publication highlighted the diverse, interesting, and important work performed behind the scenes by scientists and curators throughout the Smithsonian. It was initially distributed to media organizations, libraries, and academic institutions and available to other individuals upon request. The research reports would later be mailed to contributing members as part of their benefits. The 1992 issues, produced in the winter, spring, summer, and autimn of that year, brought various topics to the attention of the public in a format intended for a non-specialist audience, including the impact of climate change on agriculture in the Nile delta and the work of Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory staff to understand how stars are formed.
