Zines are vibrant celebrations of self-expression using simple materials. In the early 1990s, they were propelled by the riot grrrl movement, connecting like-minded readers and musicians. Today, zines continue to promote community-building and creativity, especially among young women.

Join us to learn how to make your own! We’re hosting two free workshops on Saturday, March 4th, 2023:

  • 10:30 am, suggested for kids and families
  • 2:00 pm, better suited for teens and adults

Each workshop will be about 2-3 hours long and led by comic artist Evan Keeling. Supplies will be provided. Just bring yourself and some creativity! Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour our exhibition, Music HerStory: Women and Music of Social Change, with curator Meredith Holmgren.

Register via Eventbrite. Please reserve a spot for each member of your party. Spaces are limited. Be sure to cancel your reservation if you’re not able to make it!

This program is part of the exhibition Music HerStory: Women and Music of Social Change, organized by Smithsonian Libraries and Archives and the Smithsonian Center for Folklife and Cultural Heritage. These workshops are made possible by the support of the Smithsonian Women’s Committee.
