146. This is the first publication of Huygens's theory of the properties of
light. As opposed to the corpuscular theory of light adhered to by Newton's
followers, Huygens developed a coherent wave theory of light that beautifully
explained the laws of relection and refraction as well as double refraction
and the polarization of light.
