Edison created thousands of inventions in his laboratory at Menlo Park, N.J.,
and the best were covered by over a thousand patents. The patent for the
electric lamp was just one of over a thousand produced from the laboratory of
Edison. Financed by a wealthy syndicate in 1878, it took less than two years
for edison and Francis Upton to develop a working carbon-filament lamp.
